Remy Ma - There's Something About Remy: Based on a True Story The Story of Vulgarity by: Malik Sinsear, for Entertainment
On She's Gone, some dude Remy found standing on a Bronx corner explains that "If her record don't sell, then she gonna sell drugs--true story!" And truthfully, after hearing her grab her guns, Dutches, Magnums and Pyrex measuring cups for 60 minutes, I not only believe the probable felon who gave us the lowdown, but I'm telling all my peoples not to fuck with Whuteva (ehhh?) block the chick is claiming. I'm really not exaggerating the level of crudeness here. I officially couldn't ignore it anymore when the Conceited Messages skits rolled around. One of Remy's home girls urged her to drop the lame she was with because she had two dudes present and they were down to do "everything" as long as Terror Squad's first lady was present. I swear it was like listening to every blow job interlude recorded since the inception of gangsta rap, but in a bizzaro universe run by Amazon women from Section-8 housing. Vulgar! Besides the lack of tact, there seems to be something about this album that holds it back from being a damn good one. The beats aren't immaculate, but with the bulk of the production being handled by Cool and Dre and solid contributions by Swizz Beats and Scott Storch, you just can't blame the beats for the downfall of this CD. Nor can you blame Remy's flow. I'll just say that outside of a sane Lauryn Hill (I know, an oxymoron), she has the best flow of any MC with a pair of ovaries since MC Lyte in her prime. Lights, Camera, Action, which sounds like an updated version of Junior Mafia's 1,2 Y'all is a perfect example. The vulgar bitch's flow is just bananas on it. Tight featuring her least favorite friend in the world these days, Fat Joe is another case in point as is Bilingual featuring the queen of Reggaeton, Queen Ivy where Remy absolutely stomps it out in Spanish. Features with her mentor Big Pun, Ne-Yo and Keyshia Cole give the album a bit of diversity and single potential, but they seem misplaced on this Vulger ass CD! Along with the average hooks, the vulgarity simply killed this album for me and if I had the time and I cared enough I'd probably write a letter to Remy's label telling them exactly how I felt, but I really don't have the time. I'm too busy giving my bitches the business, and my homies that packaged piff I got from Poppy. Yes, I'm being facetious.
