Movie Review
Syriana
Integrity incarnate
by: the Honarable Minister Louis Farrakhan, for Entertainment
AS-SALAAM
ALAIKUM.
In
the name of Allah, The Beneficent and The Merciful. We thank him
for allowing George Clooney so much post-Roseanne success that
he is in such a position that allows him to shed light on the
wanton corruption of the oil companies, and the irresponsible
and immoral politics of Western nations toward those countries
in the Middle East that are so very rich with this fading resource,
oil.
Brothers and Sisters, I must be honest. I did not expect to like
this film, Syriana. I thought the gravity of the subject
matter would not be handled in an honest and in-depth manner by
the filmmakers. The issues in the Middle East are far too serious
to be trifled with by Hollywood studios looking to profit off
the American public's morbid curiosity about a world of suicide
bombers and supposed "terrorists." So, it was to my
great surprise that Syriana dealt with the complexities
and intricacies of the conflicts in the region with a fair and
steady hand. Despite being unable to cover everything in a two
hour span, I believe the filmmakers did well to focus on the subject
of the oil and how it dictates global politics and the global
economy.
In this movie, Syriana, the rulers of these Middle Eastern
nations are made out to be terrorists by the Western media. In
particular, there is a character in the film by the name of Prince
Nasir Al-Subaai (played superbly by Alanxander Saddiq) who, along
with his younger brother, Prince Meshal (Akbar Kurtha) is vying,
to named successor to his dying father. But, Prince Nasir makes
a grave miscalculation in his plans as the future ruler of his
oil-rich nation. Prince Nasir has aims to nationalize his country's
oil and sell it to the highest bidder, and America could not afford
to let that happen. Her history has shown us that America does
not think fondly of leaders who seek to control their own resources,
resources that America needs to sustain itself.
Now, we all know that the characters in the movie are fictional.
However, you could say that they are, in fact, based on real people.
For example, we know of the struggles of our dear brother Muammar
Gadhafi. Brother Muammar nationalized his nation's oil and pushed
the American and British oil companies out of Libya. With the
profits he gained from the selling of Libya's vast supply of crude
oil, Brother Muammar was able to raise the standard of living
for his people. That is what a leader is supposed to do. Am I
right?
*audiences agrees*
Am I right?
*smiles and turns to his Lieutenants seated behind him*
"YesSUH!" --random NOI Lieutenant
So, soon after, we start to hear calls of terrorism by the media
in the direction of Brother Muammar. How convenient.
*audience laughs*
*puts on game face*
How convenient that the same damn thing happened with Muhammad
Mossadeq in Iraq! You're doing the same damn thing with Hugo Chavez
in Venezuela! You did the same damn thing with Saddam! In Sudan!
In Syria! Over and over, you use the American media as your attack
dog to destroy your so-called enemies who refuse to help feed
your insatiable appetite for oil! You're a junkie, America! And
you will annihilate anyone who refuses to be your pusher! BITCH,
YOU'RE SICK! It's 'bout time you went cold turkey!
*AUDIENCE EXPLODES*
*FOI STANDS*
*Farrakhan mean mugs the crowd*
*audience calms down after 2.5 minutes*
My dear Brothers and Sisters, I really do not wish to sound so
harsh and unkind, but God is judging America. And if America persists
with her filthy habit of abusing oil, God will not judge her favorably.
Like an addict, America is willing to lie, cheat, steal and even
kill to continue her habit. This sickness cannot go on. America
has great potential, but she is failing herself and the rest of
the world. She has sent the world into upheaval in support of
this tragic addiction and it is time for her to clean herself
up and live a healthy life for the sake of the human family.
In closing, Brothers and Sisters, I just want to say that I urge
you to see this film, and I want you to urge others to see this
film. I would also like to extend kind words to Mr. Clooney for
using his influence to make such an important film with such honesty
and integrity, and for staying away from the Batman franchise.
With that, Brothers and Sisters, I leave with the universal phrase
for peace, humility and honesty. In the name of Allah...
Jay lost.
